Just a thought..

I was watching the CNN coverage on the Virginia Tech. tragedy last night when a news alert on a Baghdad bombing came up. It killed 198, wounded about 240. Yes, this is in triple-digits. If this was a numbers game, this would win clearly over the Virginia coverage. But numbers game it ain't, clearly. The idea of a looney, of non-American origin at that, going on a murderous spree in pleasantville Virginia struck a chord so close to home to many Americans. It has to have the biggest side stories, longest airtime in cable news, at least in CNN and NBC, for 3 consecutive days now.

A murder is a murder- it causes tremendous pains in persons, families and relationships regardless of your race and origin, regardless of the number of the dead. Nobody wants to experience that kind of suffering. Whatever drove Andy Cho in pursuing his macabre fantasy of killing his professors and fellow students, we may never know. Only god may be able to fully discern the human psyche--especially that of a disturbed one. And sadly, this kind of news sell. People love to watch people snapping and going berserk for unexplainable reasons. It's a Tarantino masterpiece happening real time. As for the latest bombing in Iraq, it'll just have to take a backseat for now. Anyway, the atrocities in Iraq have lately been so predictable, killings after killings, nothing new really right? Perhaps CNN will put a spotlight on this when another American gets kidnapped or God forbid, killed on Iraqi soil. And then maybe, just maybe, the Iraqi families left homeless, blown to pieces, will be reported just after the segment on Britney Spear's growing hair.
