IMHO, that sucks. Why on earth would they want to do that?!? What a travesty. No one, not even Hollywood or Bollywood can measure to the campiness and novelty of the original Shaider. It just won't work.
Obviously, I'm a Shaider fan. When I was between 11-13 y.o., my world stopped every 5:30 pm on Saturdays. IBC 13 was the bomb back then. They showed the Smurfs and Takeshi's Castle (dubbed by Smokey Manaloto and Anjo Yllana). Now that's what I call Good TV. Now, all they show are these dizzying info-mercials that seem to lure you in a trance.
I must admit though that I was initially enticed with watching Shaider because of Annie's cute hot mini (with tassles) and her white boots. I wished so hard I could wear something like that while toting a pink plastic laser gun. Surely, my playmates will faint from envy. And what about Shaider..is he cutie or what?!? He is the original Asian hot guy. He clearly paved the way for the likes of Jerry Yan and the F4.
And lest me forget Shaider and Annie's nemesis, Fuma Le-ar and the rest of his gang.. what an insanely fab production! Every episode, they always came up with unique, theatrical, queerish monsters not even Mother Lily's aswangs or tiyanaks could outdo.
I hope the GMA 7 people will change their minds about adopting Shaider into Filipino. I'm guessing they will just put another melodramatic twist to this, which is ALWAYS the case in Filipino serial shows of late. I'm speculating they will show Shaider as an ampon and Annie as his long-lost sister and Fuma Le-ar as their real dad.
Spider-man 3, any one??
